LKD was intially developed in the early eighties as a street fighting system and does not contain any sporting elements whats so ever. From his many years of studying across the spectrum of martial arts, the founder developed a practical form that would work in, and be relevant to, modern life.

LKD is a modern system with traditional values.

The key to an effective modern martial art is a practicality, strategy and an open mind. It is the harmony between the old and the new that allows martial arts to develop and be pertinent today.

LKD uses concepts of the arts that the founder has studied, including Wing Chun, Jiu Jitsu, Shaolin Kung Fu and Aiki Jitsu to name but a few .

It is the synthesis of these arts that allows the student to function in a range of different combat situations. It is not a matter of mixing and matching kicks or strikes from one style or another, but instead a detailed analysis of a number of different martial arts to see if they can work in harmony with your existing skills and abilities. LKD is a living breathing system that is constantly evolving.
